Checking the official wind forecast…

How the colors work
  • Green: less than 10% probability. Stay informed.
  • Amber: 10% to under 50%. Review preparations.
  • Red: 50% or higher. Follow official warnings now.
  • Gray: missing, stale or out-of-area data. Check official sources.

These thresholds are chosen by Baja Weather Tracker. The NHC’s combined wind forecast includes all systems, so changing the selected storm does not change this local signal. We use the nearest point on its 0.5° grid (roughly 50 km spacing), not a property-level forecast. The probability covers the full 120 hours from the forecast issue time, not 120 hours from now. No record at a point means unavailable here; it does not establish zero risk.

Your device location is requested only when you press the button, is used within this page and is not saved or sent to our forecast server. The map provider receives map tile requests for the displayed area.

Getting the forecast for La Paz

Highs, lows and humidity ranges are estimates from available forecast samples, not observed daily extremes. Later days use wider time steps and are less certain. Today covers only the remaining forecast hours. Missing days or values stay blank. Icons highlight the most significant weather in the available forecast intervals; rain does not mean all-day rain.

About feels-like temperatures & sources

Feels-like is our calculated apparent temperature using air temperature, relative humidity and wind (Steadman / Australian Bureau of Meteorology method, without solar radiation). Direct sun can feel hotter. This is not AccuWeather’s proprietary RealFeel®.

On the water

La Paz · Mariners’ forecast

Swell, waves, wind & gusts
Forecast maps · Windy / ECMWF

Choose a forecast area, then move the timeline inside the map to your planned departure and return. Tap the water for a point reading.

East of Espíritu Santo · offshore · 24.55° N, 110.15° W · Map center, not a buoy observation. This section stays focused on La Paz.

Read the forecast date, time, units and model shown inside the viewer. Its clock follows the viewer’s settings and may differ from La Paz (UTC−7). External viewer controls may use their own language. If the map is blank or dated, open the full forecast above.

Swell is not the whole sea state

Primary swell shows the main wave system arriving from elsewhere. Compare it with combined waves, which include wind-driven seas. Read height, period in seconds and direction together. Short, closely spaced waves can make a difficult ride even at modest heights.

Bay shelter changes the picture

An offshore forecast cannot resolve every anchorage, marina, reef or island wind shadow. Compare the bay with the east side of Espíritu Santo and the southern Gulf approach. Local wind chop, channel currents and exposed crossings can differ sharply. Missing wave data inside the bay does not mean calm water.

Check both legs of the trip

Compare sustained wind with gusts, then advance the forecast through your return time. Check tides, depth under keel, visibility and thunderstorms separately. These model maps are planning guidance; they do not establish a safe departure window or whether the port is open.

Before casting off · official checks

Confirm restrictions with Capitanía de Puerto / your marina. The tracker does not report live port status. Use current official tide tables and nautical charts for navigation.

Warm-water guide · 26.5°C / 79.7°F

Orange areas meet or exceed this common surface-temperature guideline for water that can help fuel tropical storms and hurricanes. Blue areas are below it. This is not a storm forecast or a safety boundary.

Latest available daily analysis, not a live thermometer. NOAA’s 5 km product is sampled every 0.25° (about 25 km) for this regional overview. Transparent areas have no value. The city marker locates your selection; click offshore for an ocean reading.

Warm water can help support a hurricane, but this threshold is a rule of thumb, not a hard cutoff. NOAA describes warm water extending about 50 m (164 ft) deep as one ingredient, along with moisture and low wind shear. This surface-only map cannot confirm that depth or predict growth, sustainment or weakening.

Before a storm forms

What’s developing?

Formation probability is the chance of a system developing,
not the chance of it reaching Baja.
